The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) investigation showed that, for the 2001, 2002 and 2003 tax years, Ms. Canton voluntarily omitted to declare an income of $164,463, thus avoiding paying $28,499 in federal income tax

In addition to the fines imposed by the Court, Ms. Canton will have to pay the full amount of taxes owing as well as all related interest and penalties.

Tax evasion takes money away from the government services that benefit all Canadians. The CRA takes action against those who try to avoid paying what they owe.

The information in this news release was obtained from the court records.

More information on convictions can be found on the Media page of the CRA Web site at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/convictions/index.html.
